Borders Wheels Expands Retail Offering with New Charity Shop in Lauder

Borders Wheels is set to expand its retail presence across the region thanks to support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The charity will open a brand-new retail shop – The Treasure Trove – in Lauder this November, creating new employment and volunteering opportunities and generating vital income to support its community transport services.

Several projects across the Scottish Borders will benefit from a share of almost £1.7 million from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The 2025–26 funding comes from a one-year transitional fund, approved by the UK Government following the success of the previous three-year scheme. Grants were also awarded to initiatives that support one of the fund’s three core themes: Communities and Place, Supporting Local Business, and People and Skills.

Denise Carmichael, Chief Executive of Borders Wheels, welcomed the news:

“We are delighted that the Scottish Government, through Scottish Borders Council, is supporting us in growing the Borders Wheels retail offering. Our new shop, The Treasure Trove, will open in Lauder this November. We hope the community will pop in, discover hidden gems, and support their local community transport service.”

The additional funding will allow Borders Wheels to create new jobs and volunteering roles while bringing a fantastic new retail space to Lauder. The charity already operates successful shops in Jedburgh and Innerleithen, which help fund its vital transport services for residents across the Borders.

Mike Rumbles, Chair of Borders Wheels, added:

“This new retail shop marks a significant step in growing our retail business, and we are incredibly grateful for the support. The additional shop will help Borders Wheels continue its mission of providing accessible and affordable transport for communities across the Scottish Borders.”
